Madrid-Barajas Airport
Flight connections
Passengers making a stopover at Madrid airport with the intention of continuing their journey on another flight (transit passengers) may need to change terminals, as Adolfo Suarez Madrid-Barajas airport has two major hubs: one in terminal T4 and the other in terminals T1, T2 and T3.
The time required for connecting flights varies depending on the route, the airline, whether you have to pick up your baggage or it is checked at destination, and whether you have to move between terminals.
Please note that if you do not have a boarding pass for your next flight, and you need to pick up your baggage because it is not checked at destination, you will need to exit the boarding area, go through immigration if there are any, and proceed to your airline's check-in counter to check your baggage again. You will then have to go through security again to re-enter the boarding area.
To this time, you will need to add the time required for transfer between terminals if necessary.
Transit passengers who do not have a boarding pass, or who need to pick up their baggage because it is not checked in at destination, have a free shuttle bus service connecting terminals T1, T2, T3 and T4 from outside the terminals, 24 hours a day. Access to T4S can only be made from inside the boarding area of terminal T4, and passengers must have a boarding pass.
Would you like to skip the security checkpoint queues? Fast Track reduce boarding time and allows you to reach the boarding area or VIP lounges earlier.
For transit passengers who already have their boarding pass and baggage checked to destination, connections between terminals can be made as follows:
- From terminal T1 to T4 Satellite using a free bus service connecting baggage claim hall 1 terminal T1 to terminal T4 Satellite.
- From terminal T1 to terminals T2 - T3 through a free bus service connecting baggage claim hall 1 to terminal T1 Hall 2 and terminal T2 Hall 6. This route can also be made on foot in an estimated time of 10 minutes.
- Connections between terminal T4 and Terminal T4 Satellite can only be made with the automatic metro train (APM).
